The Creative Arts Club: Cyanotypes - Working with Summer Light

Making cyanotypes has become an annual event at the Creative Arts Club.  Come along and immerse yourselves in the wonderful gardens at Bell House and create a collection of beautiful blue prints using nature, sunlight, water - and your own creativity!

Cyanotypes - Working with Summer Light

Cyanotype printing is a form of contact photography using an object placed directly onto light sensitive paper which is then exposed to sunlight.   The simplest of objects can make a hauntingly beautiful image in beautiful “cyan” blue and white. You will use sunlight, water, nature and your own creativity - it is as simple as that!

You will each be given your own bundle of assorted coated papers plus some cotton fabric to use for this workshop, sealed in a special photo sensitive envelope.

We will take inspiration and even some samples from the Bell House gardens to use for the prints but you are all welcome to bring objects from home to try.  Good examples of the sort of thing to bring would be: black and white negatives (large), lace pieces, an intricate stencil, small pressed plants, - anything flattish that has interesting pattern allowing light to shine through.

Making cyanotypes is a kind of magic - once you have made your first print you won’t want to stop!  Working with direct sunlight is always best, but at this time of year there is enough UV light to make prints whatever the weather.  So come along and have a go!

No experience is necessary.  All materials and refreshments will be provided. Please bring an apron with you to this class plus something to carry your prints home with you (NB some may still be damp)
