Performance by Laura Moreton-Griffiths
In the performance, the protagonist haunts Bell House. Wandering, a key in hand, searching for the door it will open. Thinking about hauntology, a concept introduced by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in his book Spectres of Marx (1993), in which he proposes the return or lingering of elements from our social or cultural past, in the manner of ghosts. The dress is a reconstruction of a gown worn by the winged personification of melancholy, from the etching Melencolia I (1549) by master engraver Albrecht Dürer. Made from hand-sewn canvas.
