Art at Bell House
It is well documented that creativity is essential for well-being and at Bell House we believe in lifelong creative learning for all. Our art programme offers a range of art workshops and activities led by professional artists, and continues to grow. Our classes are designed for all levels of experience from the absolute beginner to the more experienced art practitioner and take place in the beautiful rooms and gardens of Bell House.
THE CREATIVE ARTS CLUB - ART FOR ALL
The Creative Arts Club is a monthly arts group for all adults (18+).
The aim of the club is to offer participants a wide range of art and craft activities in a beautiful and friendly setting. All levels of experience are catered for in each class - we welcome the absolute beginner as well as the more experienced artist!
Some examples of the activities offered over the past year include:
drawing, painting, collage, decoupage, marbling, gilding, cyanotype printing.. to name but a few. There really is something for everyone at the Creative Arts Club.
The classes are led by local artist Sarah Wetherall who has many years’ experience running art workshops, activities and events for a range of age groups. She worked at Dulwich Picture Gallery for over 10 years. During her time there she focused on community outreach and engagement - in particular the pioneering Art for Older People programmes, which included work with diverse groups of people living with dementia.
Sarah has developed a particular interest in the link between creativity, health and well-being. This lies at the heart of all her classes.
When:
The club runs on the last Friday of the month from 10am-12pm.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
We welcomed our first Artist in Residence in December 2023. Atalanta Xanthe is an internationally exhibited painter represented by the Alice Black gallery in London. Her background in painting at Oxford, Sculpture at the New York Academy of Art and a decade of life-drawing practice, has given her a wide-ranging technical skill-set she is excited to share with the Bell House community.
You can explore her work via her Instagram or her gallerist’s website, Alice Black.
When:
Atalanta opens her studio on the first Saturday of the month from 11:30 to 12:30 in the morning, so come by and say hello. No booking required.
Saturday Art Studio
Each Saturday Art Studio class takes a famous (or an overlooked but brilliant) artist as a starting point , then combines a touch of art history with detailed technical instruction for those who want it, and a chance to experiment freely for those who don’t. Join us to draw flowers from life inspired by Dutch Golden-Age paintings, make your own Lowry and learn about the secret source material for Matisse’s collages, taking home your own Blue Nude.
These classes are run by our artist in residence, Atalanta Xanthe. They are suitable for all experience levels, and are aimed at adults, so ages 16+ are welcome. If you’d like to bring along a younger student with you, please email the instructor at [email protected]. Materials are provided.
When:
The Saturday Art Studio runs every first and third Saturday of the month, from 1-3 pm.
