The impact of dyslexia
Dyslexia affects the way that the brain processes language. One in ten people is thought to be dyslexic.
Problems with reading and spelling are not the only challenges faced by dyslexic people, as the Dyslexia Iceberg below shows:

When we understand this, it's no wonder that daily life at school and at work can leave individuals, parents and carers feeling frustrated, helpless and exhausted.
However, with the right support, the dyslexic learner can discover their strengths and talents - and begin to thrive.

About dyslexia
Dyslexia affects the way that the brain processes verbal information, and is often first noticed when children are learning to read and write. However, dyslexia can affect other skills as well, such as personal organisation and remembering information such as instructions and facts. It may not become evident until a child is in secondary school, or even beyond.
You can see the recently revised definition of dyslexia here.

SCHOOL OUTREACH
Free Parent Talks with Q&A
Bell House dyslexia specialists are able to offer a limited number of FREE parent talks at local primary schools. This works particularly well after drop-off, especially if you can offer parents a cup of tea or coffee!
Our session will give a brief overview of dyslexia, and we will offer tips and advice for supporting your child at home when they find reading and/or spelling difficult. Time will be given to answering parents’ questions, including talking about screeners and assessments and where to find further support.
Free Staff Training
The Bell House dyslexia team is able to offer a limited number of FREE staff training sessions, led by one of the experienced dyslexia consultants who volunteer with Bell House.
This training examines the new updated definition of Dyslexia and considers how we can better understand our pupils through the use of empathy activities. Finally, it looks at what teaching strategies (including Assistive technology and AI) can be used in the classroom to support dyslexic learners.
