O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Following on from Matthew’s successful ‘Free Your Voice’ workshop this summer, Bell House is pleased to welcome Matthew back for ‘Speaking Shakespeare’, a four-part voice course focusing on Romeo and Juliet in which participants will explore Shakespeare's most famous lovers by speaking them.
Session One: Thursday 26 Nov
Session Two: Friday 27 Nov
Session Three: Monday 30 Nov
Session Four: Tuesday 1 Dec
The cost is £60 for four sessions.
Each session will start with vocal exercises. Then we'll go into speaking, working on speeches using exercises that help professional actors explore text. The idea is that speakers don't focus on the challenges of Shakespeare's language but allow his words to speak them.
Results can be extraordinary. Speakers can find voices they didn't know they had – and speakers can find meaning in complicated text that academic study doesn't always reveal.
Principal scenes will be spoken and explored. The final session will showcase speeches that participants have worked on themselves.
At the end of the course participants will have a greater understanding of their own voices, and of Shakespeare's language in this famous play.
You don't have to enjoy Shakespeare and you don't have to enjoy acting or speaking to enjoy this course. In fact, if you hate Shakespeare, really loathe acting, and absolutely detest public speaking – you will still enjoy and benefit from this course. Guaranteed!
