Victorian & Edwardian Dulwich had a large foreign community. A large number of wealthy European businessmen, mainly Germans, but also Dutch, Danish, French and Polish came to live and raise their families in the area. Most became naturalised and this illustrated talk will look at their careers and how their children, many educated at Dulwich College, quickly assimilated into their adopted country.

Ian McInnes leads architecture tours for a number of organisations. He is an architect and a former chair of the Twentieth Century Society’s Casework Committee. He lives locally and has a particular interest in both private and social housing from this period
