This two-hour darning workshop is designed to help you keep the clothes you already own lasting longer and out of landfill.
Darning is a great practical skill and relaxing craft we can easily do at home. It helps us unwind from the busy lives we lead, while also making us more conscious of our clothing choices.
During this workshop Madeline will teach you about visible and invisible darning of your beloved woollens through practical instruction as well as exploring the different tools and materials you can use to keep practising this skill at home.
All darning materials will be provided for the workshop but you will need to bring a woollen item from home to mend. For example, a wool jumper or cardigan with moth holes, or a pair of worn out woolly socks.
Places are £55 per person. All workshops are non-refundable

About Madeline Tanoto
My name is Madeline Tanoto and I’m a designer-maker with a 20-year career in fashion, design and teaching across all things textiles. I am a qualified Mental Health First Aider and combine these skills with my textiles experience to explore the craft of mending within a supportive and inclusive environment. In 2022 I devised and delivered a series of free mending workshops in Lewisham Shopping Centre as part of the Borough of Culture events. I also partner with charities, housing associations, local businesses, and organisations to run mending and sewing sessions for social housing residents as well as the wider local communities in Southwark and Lewisham boroughs.
