Cyanotype/Anthotype - The Blue and Yellow
Cyanotype was one of the first photographic processes made known through the work of Anna Atkins in 1842. This process continues today with a contemporary and creative approach used by many artists. In 1842 the Anthotype process was also ‘developed’ by Mary Sommerville and her research into botanical solutions, mistakenly assigned to Sir John Herschell, is now rightly credited.
This workshop will allow you to have a go at making a print using the cyanotype process, making a blueprint and /or trying the Anthotype process using vegetable/spice based solutions. This is a cameraless process and we will use botanicals and a selection of objects. If you have something you would like to try please bring it along.
The workshop needs sun/UV and will be dependent upon bright weather, anthotypes can take a long time to develop so may not be strong images but you will have an idea of the process.
All ages and all abilities are welcome. The session is led by Ky Lewis.
Drop in anytime between 1-3pm. Cost £8 payable on the day (cash preferred).
