Heat Press: Sublimation Printing

In this sublimation printing workshop, printers will paint and mark-make with a range of colour liquid disperse dyes onto paper.

The painted sublimation dyed papers are then transferred onto fabric using a heat press. We will also experiment with ready-made sublimation papers, designing hand-cut stencils for printing onto textiles. Colours can be layered, and flat objects and stencils used as a resist to create patterns and shapes onto fabric.

The sublimation dyes work best on synthetic fabrics, or with a mixed component of cotton and synthetic, for example. In the workshop we will print onto recycled polyester suede, acetate satin, polyester sateen and polyester crepe de chine.

This workshop is suitable for anyone, beginners and those with experience. By the end of the three hour workshop you will have a greater understanding of the process, the equipment and materials needed to print at home.
