Bell House Workshop: Printing with Light
This is a form of contact photography using and object placed directly onto light sensitive paper. The simplest of objects can make a hauntingly beautiful image in ethereal blue and white. You will use sunlight, water, nature and your own creativity – it is as simple as that!
Morning 10am – 12.30pm
We will go out into the gardens at Bell House to find inspiration and samples to take back into the class and experiment with. You will learn the basics of making cyanotype prints.
Lunch Break: 12.45 – 2.00pm
Please bring your own lunch in to have together in the house or the gardens, weather depending.
Afternoon Session: 2pm – 4pm
You will continue and refine your experimentations and learn how to make cards, bookmarks, gift tags and more with your beautiful prints
We are hoping to be able to gather some grasses from the garden but please feel free to be bring anything you think you might like to try: ferns and wispy grasses, skeleton leaves, B/W negatives, lace – any interesting flat-ish object that lets light through is best.
Please bring lunch with you: depending on the weather we can enjoy lunch break outside or in. And please bring an apron.
About the Artist/Workshop Leader
The session will be run by Sarah Wetherall, a local artist whose range is broad – from murals to miniatures she paints in a variety of media and styles. She is an experienced art tutor who runs classes and workshops for all ages, including at Dulwich Picture Gallery where she has worked for many years. Sarah has an allotment nearby and nature is increasingly at the heart of everything she does.
