LEARNING TO PRINT WITH METAL TYPE

Choose a typeface or two from our huge library of historic metaltype and spend an immersive afternoon learning the basics of letterpress printing. Take home a pile of handmade goodies all handprinted by YOU in our wonderful basement Print Room & Bindery.

You will start by making some correspondence cards. In a fully-guided session you will be hand-setting a simple line of text into an 8 X 5 metal forme using type, spacers, quoins and printer’s furniture. You will then print a proof of this on one of our 1950’s hand-operated Adana tabletop presses before printing a generous pile of cards to add to the collection you will be taking home at the end of the session.

After a short break you will be working with bigger metal type, ornaments and maybe even some vintage Monotype borders to create a frameable inspirational bespoke print. You will get to print this on our huge (but friendly) 1867 Albion Press and then, if there is time, maybe we will all work together on a frameable type-sample.

You can then take home your bespoke printed goodies in a Bell House Print Room & Bindery tote bag and hopefully want to come back for more!

There are only 4 places on this course so we can provide lots of tutoring and on-press time.

Tickets are £60 per person.

Suitable for over 16s only. Unfortunately this event is not suitable to anyone in a wheel chair due to basement access.

Refunds

Please note, we are unfortunately unable to offer refunds for this event.
