Baroque Meets the 20th Century (solo viola)

  • Bell House Dulwich 27 College Rd England, SE21 7BG United Kingdom (map)

Join violist Connie Pharoah for an unforgettable evening of music, as she brings to life solo viola masterpieces spanning 230 years.

Connie is an exciting British Violist, performing across Europe as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader.

Based in Amsterdam, Connie is a member of the Marigold Piano Quartet and freelances across Europe with all the major orchestras and chamber orchestras in the Netherlands as well as the 12 Ensemble and O'Modernt Chamber Orchestra, and is the co-founder of Seida Ensemble.

Last year she performed across the UK and Europe with the world-renowned composer Max Richter. She has just returned from performing at the Heidelberg Festival and now she is looking forward to performing concerts in Japan and with the HearAndNow collective in Australia.

The programme pairs Bach’s Baroque mastery with two 20th century composers - Hindemith and Britten - who were deeply influenced by earlier traditions. Hindemith’s modern yet baroque inspired language mirrors Bach’s formal structure, while Britten’s third Cello Suite contrasts these influences with more avant-garde techniques, creating a bridge between historical homage and modern innovation.
