Poems of the Week, Week 1: Garage by Robert Hancock

For week 1 of our Poems of the Week, Robert Hancock, who will be jointly curating future weeks, shares one of his own poems.

Garage

The garage war is over!

There were no victors

Just three shelving units

And a rickety new cupboard

There were some close skirmishes

Assembly instructions vv common sense

Wooden mallet vv flat pack

Innocent advice vv belligerence

Memory will lose the details

Friendly cup’o tea and KitKat

Polish painter next door

With broad shoulders

For now, envisage peace

Until the garden shed

Becomes the new

Battlefield
