  • Bell House Dulwich 27 College Rd England, SE21 7BG United Kingdom (map)

Would you like to have go at bookbinding?

This session starts at 10 and 4.30. There is a chance of over-running so please allow some extra time at the end if the day.

Come and start the year in our Print Room & Bindery.

Tania will introduce you to the fundamentals of case binding.

You will learn the fundamentals of paper grain, bone folding, punching, adding tape and stitching on a sewing frame, tipping-on end papers, gluing and backing and finally making the hard cover and casing in.

This workshop is ideally suited to anyone who has had a little experience of bookbinding but anyone who can thread a needle and handle a craft knife and is a keen crafter will be able to follow the days task. If you have some experience then all the better!

All materials and equipment supplied. Tania will have ready prepared all the materials you need trimmed to size for an efficient speed of working.

This session is designed to equip you with skills that you can build on at future workshops and work on at home.

These workshops are held in the Bell House Print Room and Bindery where we will be using materials and equipment kindly donated to us from Dulwich College and The London Library. Space is limited so book fast. These are probably the smallest book binding classes ever! ONLY 3 places available for lots of one-to-one focus time.

You will most definitely be needing a break so either bring along a sarnie or we can refuel on some biccies for half an hour.

Cost including all materials £60.

ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED – EXPERIENCE LEVEL: SOME / INTERMEDIATE

PLEASE NOTE this workshop is unsuitable for under 16s and sharp equipment is used.

PLEASE BRING AN EXTRA LAYER AS THE PRINT ROOM MAY GET CHILLY.

The workshop will be run by the Creative Director of the Print Room & Bindery -  Tania Hurt-Newton.
